Exhausted Yet?

Between Birthdays, Christmas and New Year's,
I'm....well....exhausted.
With the New Year just behind us, we all need to take a
Deep Breathe.
Do it now.
All together now.
Inhale. (Hold)
Exhale. (Slowly)
Repeat. (Several times if needed)
Ahhhhhhhh. Doesn't that make you feel better?

Now we can move onto resolutions.
We all have them.
Do we all need them?
Really, why do we make them?
I'm not saying we shouldn't or that they are a bad thing,
But social expectation is that you wake up on January 1st with a designed plan to improve your life.
Somehow.

So we make an inner proposal with ourselves to ___________ (you fill in the blank)
and promise ourselves to stick to the plan for the whole year
(Yeah, right).
Hopefully, we're objective, because otherwise even our best intentions will be thwarted.

After all, resolutions require
Ambition, Determination, Tenacity, Resolve and Will Power.
To stay fixed on the purpose or goal you need Perseverance.

I, for one, do not make New Year's resolutions.
I can tell, when asked,
 "What's your New Year's resolution?"
that people are disappointed when I tell them I don't have one.
What? No need for improvement?
So, I'm here to set the record straight.
It's not because I think I'm perfect or have no flaws,
it's because resolutions make me tired.
Just the thought of them sucks all the stamina out of me.
(Maybe I'll have more strength to try a resolution in June.
After more Birthdays, Father's Day, Mother's Day and Graduations).

If you've already committed yourself to turning over a new leaf,
I say:
KEEP IT GOIN'
But if, like me, you have no energy left for resolutions,
take comfort in knowing that according to the
Chinese Zodiac, 2012 is the year of the Dragon.
龍
The ultimate sign signifying
Success and Happiness.
My wish for you in this New Year.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must get back to my breathing.
Inhale.
Exhale.

  1. OK, so resolutions are tiring....Here's what Susanne & I have been doing for 25 years. We come up with 1 resolution for each other each year. Sometimes it's one thing that bugs the "CR?@#$%A%$AP" out of one of us, but mostly it's a very small thing that we would like to see the other spouse do for us throughout the year (it's only for 1 year, but usually after a year's time it's become a normal daily routine/habit) We are more dedicated to keeping it for the person we love most AND we feel that we've changed & Improved something in a positive way for each other....it can be fun too! Try it and let us know how you've done :>O
