Most of you know that this past month our family lost a dear (Grand) Father.
For my family, it means he is no longer here with us each Sunday.
For others it was a weekly phone call or a lunch date.
He told us often how he prayed for each of us.
Every night.
Every night.
Although he was stingy about saying, "I love you" we all knew
he was truly in love with his family.
he was truly in love with his family.
9 Children (and their spouses),
23 Grandchildren (and their spouses) and
14 Great-grandchildren
must have taken up alot of his thinking.
23 Grandchildren (and their spouses) and
14 Great-grandchildren
must have taken up alot of his thinking.
Knowing he isn't there to think about us anymore,
makes life a little bit lonelier.
makes life a little bit lonelier.
Over the last month, living in the moment became paramount.
The caretaking responsibilities reversed.
And we did the best we knew how;
but oh how lacking that seemed
but oh how lacking that seemed
in comparison to all the care he had taken for his family.
Now we must go on with our lives, minus the patriarch.
We must get through this grieving process in time.
In our home now stands the grandmother clock
that he had in his own home for the last 50+ years.
Every swing of the pendulum,
every ticktock, ticktock
is a proof of the continuation of our existence.
It chimes every 15 minutes, reminding us that
time stands still for no one;
time stands still for no one;
each stroke a powerful recollection
of a life well lived.
